The NF (Intuitive Feeling) types in the Myers-Briggs personality system are unique among all the other Myers-Briggs personality types for having peculiar problems in attaining success and happiness in their career and work.
Their problems in this regard come down to them not taking action for the following reasons:
- Don’t know what they really want to do.
- Don’t know what they are good at doing.
- Don’t have a clear plan for how they would go about doing what they are good at doing.
- Can’t stay on track with that plan because they aren’t held accountable by anyone.
I have developed a 3-phase consulting method that deals with these problems that NF people have.
1st Phase: Discovery
The first thing that THE DREAMER (NF type) has to determine is what they genuinely like and are good at. NF people often have vague ideas of what it is they want in life. They have romantic fantasies rather than concrete and specific objectives. The problem is that they want to do great things, but they don’t know HOW to go about getting there.
But, a more fundamental problem can be that they want to do something purely out of love and passion, which they however may be incompatible with, or it may be the complete opposite: the NF person resigns to reality and just does something that conventional people have told them is proper and realistic.
However, what I believe is the correct approach is to take an inventory of what the NF person has already done in their lives that they like and are good at. It doesn’t have to be something they LOVE. The NF may be fixated on one particular dream that they have to do with a burning passion. Or they may be completely blank about what it is they want to do, often because of years of conditioning from parents, teachers, and conventional society, but whatever the case may be, the most important thing is the actual past of the client up to this point where we are consulting.
My 3-phase consulting method helps to determine what it is that the NF type can be happy and successful at doing because they have already had some success with it before.
2nd phase: Getting into Action
Once we find this item, then we move into phase 2, which is about getting into action.
I have a very simple method for getting into action: I call it IMPULSE.
An impulse is a gut feeling about what you should do. It’s similar to improvisational acting. You don’t have a lot of time to think about what comes next, you just do what comes to you first. I have expertise in assisting NF people get into action by gently pushing them to act on their first impulse and creating an environment of LIVENESS. I am like your acting partner in an IMPROV scene and I’m prompting you to figure out what comes next in this story of your life.
These impulses that are generated from our interaction will lead to what I call WEEKLY ACTION items. This phase lasts 4 weeks with the client having weekly objectives that they are accountable to. I will meet with them once per week during this phase to discuss what the results are of these actions they are taking.
3rd Phase: Accountability/Staying on track
In Phase 3, the dreamer has now been taking weekly actions towards their goal. However, without continued momentum in the direction of their goal, the dreamer is likely to fall back into their old behavior and abandon the bright new path that is opening before them.
Thus, in this phase the NF has achieved momentum from the impulses they have generated and acted upon in Phase 2. This phase is scaling back my involvement in the NF’s life and now they are going to be more independent. Sorta like when a kid learns to ride a bike. Once that bike is up and running and the NF is riding it without training wheels, what do they need me for? But they might get down the road a bit and find a new terrain or obstacle course (fun?) coming up on their journey, which still requires me to be involved in their situation, albeit in a reduced capacity.
Continued accountability to what the NF person specifically said they were going to do as a weekly objective is still important here, however assuming that they are able to ride their bike without falling over and staying on track, then we may safely say the client is in Phase 3.
If this is not happening, then we will go back to Phase 2, at the client’s discretion, which brings back my closer involvement with the client’s struggle and addressing whatever limiting beliefs, old scripts, or just plain practical problems are coming up in the attainment of the objective formulated in Discovery phase.
Ready to get into intelligent action according to a smart objective?
Hello, my name is Blake Donovan. I have been consulting with NF types since 2015. I know a lot about the ways dreamer types get derailed.
If you are an NF type, or think you might be one, and are ready to get started on your journey of exploration, then the first step is to get enrolled in Phase 1: Discovery. The cost for this is $200 to be paid upfront. However if finances are an issue, I can make some flexibility in payment arrangements.
To enroll, simply send me an email at blake@stellarmaze.com to get started. Put REQUEST TO ENTER DISCOVERY in the header of the email and then simply copy and paste the info requested at this link into the body of the email substituted with your actual info.
You may be preoccupied with one particular struggle in your life right now, however, in the Discovery process we are going to look back over your life and how you got to the current point. The beauty of Discovery is that what you think your problem is may not be your real problem, but it is good to have A STARTING POINT OF STRUGGLE to work backwards from, so just briefly state in the body of the email whatever it is that is prompting you to seek help from me and we’ll go from there.
Well, that’s all for now.
I look forward to hearing from you and helping you on your journey!

For any of you readers browsing this site, I can also personally attest to the fact that Blake is a wonderful consultant. He definitely pushes you in a direction (any direction, which is better than where you were-stagnant, motionless, devoid of any momentum or direction at all). He pushed you by asking simple questions and those simple questions hit buttons that coast you along in the journey of self discovery.
It’s definitely true that NF types are dreamers and idealists who hoard seeds of beautiful flowers but can never muster up the motivation to plant them . We NFs get overwhelmed with the possibilities, our ideals collide with practicality, and then sometimes we lose track of what we even wanted or cared about all together.
Blake helped me spin my rusty wheels in my brain and helped me narrow down my truest desires and roadblocks by steering me in a direction of action. When you begin to act upon the world, just that act of doing as opposed to idly ruminating, you begin to answer questions on your own. Sometimes it just takes that person to steer you, drag you by your feet or propel you forward to get you to wake up enough to evaluate everything you thought you wanted, knew and cared about.
When I first started talking to Blake in the initial phase of Discovery, I think I took him on a few mind bending rollercoasters as I frantically tried to convince him and myself that there was something wrong with me. But despite the confusion hill that I took him on, he followed me the whole way, nudging me along and guiding me by helping me stay focused on something.
I can now say that thanks to Blake, I feel like I found myself under a heap of wornout ambition and knotted ideals. I feel like I discovered my true reason fur being stuck and encapsulated my truest passion into something that I can see clear enough to act upon.
Blake will always be my go to for when I need help untangling myself or just need that little accountability partner to push me forward. He’s an incredibly knowledgeable and passionate fellow human and his services tap into a part of you that clinical phycologists will never touch because he sees and hears you for who you are without stupifying your experiences to useless textbook labels.
